A lack of hot water does not automatically mean the whole water heater needs replacing. The decision depends on the source of the problem, the unit’s condition and service history, whether a suitable repair is available, and how well it meets your hot-water needs. Age is useful information, but it is not a diagnosis by itself.

Tell us about leaks, changes in temperature, unusual noises, repeated loss of hot water or a displayed error code. Those symptoms help us understand the request; an inspection is needed to determine the cause and appropriate options.

Tell us the brand and model, the exact error code if one is displayed, and whether the problem affects every hot-water fixture or only one. Mention when it was last serviced, if known. Ask about service for your particular unit and its manufacturer-recommended maintenance.

If you are considering switching to tankless, describe your current heater and the fixtures that need hot water at the same time. Suitability and installation scope need to be evaluated for the property; tankless is not automatically the best replacement for every home.
